About Westinghouse Arts Academy
Westinghouse Arts Academy is a tuition free, creative and performing arts high school, for grades 9 through 12. Westinghouse is dedicated to providing comprehensive arts programming for high school students to further develop their artistic skills, while achieving creative and academic excellence through their course study. We achieve these goals through a unique environment that accommodates diverse interests within a set of uniform standards. Each student’s academic instruction is tailored to the needs, interests and goals identified by the student and their teachers.
Westinghouse Arts Academy also encourages the importance of individuality, excellence, self-responsibility, as well as problem solving, divergent and autonomous thinking.
Additionally, Westinghouse Arts Academy strives to make a positive change in Wilmerding and the surrounding area by being a catalyst for economic and community development through the arts.

PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMS

MUSICAL THEATRE
The award winning Musical Theatre Program prepares students for the rigors of the industry from auditioning to professional contracts. Additionally, students have the opportunity to work on many projects including fully produced musicals and industry masterclasses.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
The Instrumental Music program focuses on developing the musicianship of instrumental
students through a variety of instruction, rehearsal, and performance. Students will rehearse
and perform instrumental literature from different styles and time periods as a large group, in
smaller ensembles, and in solo settings. As they play the music, students learn about the
intricacies of different musical styles and broaden their horizons as performers and musicians.

DANCE
The dance department prepares students to be well rounded dancers for the demands of the future. Young dancers are afforded the opportunity to focus on their craft, develop new skills, understand the
industry that lies beyond dance education.

VOCAL MUSIC
The Vocal Music program focuses on developing the musicianship of vocal
students through a variety of instruction, rehearsal, and performance. Students will take courses in music literacy, sight singing, vocal styles and more! Performance opportunities inlude a variety of concerts as well as public events.

THEATRE ARTS
Students studying Theatre Arts will embark on an exploration of the many creative
pathways that a career in theatre has to offer. From dance to directing to theatre design,
students will explore all aspects including the art of acting.
CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAMS

STUDIO ARTS
The Studio Art Dept Studies include traditional visual mediums: drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking and mixed media. Studio artists will learn through a lens of culturally informed art history, contemporary practices, portfolio development,and implement professional practices within the art career field.

DIGITAL ARTS
Short Program Description: Exploring the world of digital arts and the relationship with culture
and music. Here we learn to capture, manipulate, and present imagery for use in real world
applications. Our goal is to help our students develop captivating and industry ready projects to
add to their portfolios.

LITERARY ARTS
The WAA Literary Arts program provides students with an exploratory experience in the
world of literature and writing. Students have opportunities to publish their work in various
magazines, read poetry in a community setting, and participate in building literacy for
personal growth and community growth.
